Take a deep breath, let it out, I'll never be okay...
Wow... so this is what it feels like to step out of a hurricane.

Let's break it down.

Thursday: Alkaline Trio concert!!!! It was awesome. (puts on little kid voice) I got to ride in a taxiiii and play in the mosh piiiiiits annnnnnnnd yeah. (/kid voice) Actually, it was interesting to see people out of their "natural environment". You can really tell who people are by their position in the crowd and how they act at a concert. ::cough:: Anyway, riding in a taxi was everything I ever dreamed it would be. I mean, the guy driving us was really surly and foreign and told us the whole story about his divorce and marijuana and old guys smoking crack in his backseat. It was magnificent. Then, when I got back, I shared some nachos with Litty and Gibson and tried to fix the buzzing noise in my ears. 'Twas good times.

Friday: 8 am Physics exam. 'nuff said. Actually, I got it back today and I got a B! I might've done better with more sleep, but that's pretty doubtful. Anyway, snoozed through all my classes, then went to Happy Hour at Phi Psi. I couldn't drink because I had a horse show the next day, but I had a really good time! I beat the roomie at Beruit for the first time (and possibly the last time), danced, and learned how to play no-hand flip cup (which I highly intend on playing next week). Anyway, after grabbing dinner I went to Gilbert's to meet up with my lovely LCET ladies, hung around there, then went to the Teddy Bear stuffing thing with Lauren. I made a poodle! It now lives on my bed.

Saturday: Ough, this was a long one. I mean, all horse show days are, but seriously... Anyway, I left my room at 5:40 am and it was very cold outside. I mean, seriously cold. Drove to Centenary, watched the horses school, yadda yadda, and it seemed like a kinda uneasy day. I mean, its normal for some people to fall off at shows, but this was a little more than usual. Anyway, for jumping I got the cuuuuutest little chestnut named Tigger and ended up placing 2nd! My flat wasn't so good. My horse had a severe drift and my stirrups were too long and I posted on the wrong diagonal because I was so caught up in everything else... focus issues suck ass. So I placed 5th there. Boo, 2 more points till Intermediate.

But this is not why Saturday was long.

There was only one class of Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter. 2 of our girls were riding in the class, so (huddled with half my team for warmth) I watched. Now, as Manda will agree, you ride (especially event) long enough and you get a sense for people who are going to fall off. So, as I watched the class, I started to get that eerie feeling when I watched one of the girls (thankfully not one from my team) going around at a canter the first direction. She was really leaned forward and her leg was digging into the horse's side. Regardless, they switched directions and started cantering the other way. Unfortunately, this time did not fair so well. The girl had her leg gripping to the back of the horse as she leaned onto its neck and the poor guy just bolted. And she fell. And was knocked cold. My friends, I've been riding 13 years and I have never seen a fall so horrific. It was bone-chilling. For obvious reasons, everyone was moved out and the show went on, but...well... it was not an easy site.

I didn't get home till 7:30. I passed out till 10:30, then just took a chill night off. Have a beer, take a deep breath, just unwind.

Sunday: Studied DiffEqs. Went to LCET meeting. Studied more DiffEqs.

Today: Classes, Music Theory labs (didn't go well... alas...), DiffEqs exam (which we will not speak of at this point), then the usual. But its 9:30 and I've been done my homework for an hour!!!

::phew:: So glad I can just relax for one night...

i wonder how that really bad fall at the last fairhill fence judging would compare to that... too bad we didn't see that one.

seems like this weekend people just couldn't stay on their horses... we rode at Westminster College on Sunday, we were seriously riding in mud soup. and watching novice fences was scary, one girl from another team fell at her first fence right into the mud, splat! i felt really bad for her... then later in the flat some girl's saddle was sliding and she grabbed the fence as her saddle slid off onto the side of the horse. luckily they weren't our girls. :) hope showing is going well for you. miss riding with you and forgetting to count. hope classes are going well for you, and i hate math (even if it is my major)...

jessica

p.s. i rode an arab last week at a show, i was seriously cantering in the halt position. yay IHSA! LOL
